It’s a privilege to serve and honor those with disabilities and special needs. SOS was given an opportunity to do this through the help, insight, and direction of the Tim Tebow Foundation (TTF). In their own words, their “Night to Shine” (NTS) event “is an unforgettable prom night experience, centered on God’s love, for people with special needs ages 14 and older. Thousands from around the world will come together to honor those with disabilities.”

At the Hope Centers, what started in the Latin mission is now in West Africa… SOS is hosting such events. We would like to do a shout-out to Emily Jensen, Operations Manager for NTS. She is a dear friend of SOS, and said her dream is coming true in TTF and SOS working together! Thanks, Emily, for your efforts and desire for this to happen!

Once a year in many countries, people with disabilities are put in the spotlight to show and remind them (and those who take care of them) that their lives matter. In the words of our Lord, “When you give a feast (when you do a NTS!), invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you.” (Luke 14:13-14). The TTF has chosen the disabled, those with special needs as “the ones who were invited to the feast”. The Bible says that when you invite the crippled and the lame, you will be blessed by Jesus Himself and not by them because they have no means to repay you. When you show respect to those who cannot care for themselves, it’s as if you were doing it unto Jesus Himself. When you lift up the downtrodden, the broken, the lowly among the people, that is what pleases Christ the most!

A testimony:

At Wit’s End

Born with microcephaly, a condition where the head is smaller than expected, Rebecca and Luis are isolated and suffer from being discriminated against because of their condition, and could not attend a normal school.

Though reluctant, they agreed to come to NTS. Once they were there, they enjoyed themselves to the fullest. Rebecca told her mom and friends everything: how they dressed her up, put makeup on her, and made her extra beautiful for the photos. She showed them the gifts she was given and the photos they gave her, shown love from God… there was so much. She was exceedingly happy.

However, one week after NTS, Rebecca received the news that her mom has breast cancer. She is trying to get chemotherapy and is afraid of dying and leaving her children alone. At her wits end, she has agreed to go to church at the Hope Center to seek God’s help. With our commitment to help them come, she is now seeking the Lord and coming to church. Please join us in prayer that she and her children will become believers and followers of Christ.
